After leading The Ivymount School & Programs for 21 years, Jan Wintrol has announced that she will retire as CEO of Ivymount Corporation within the year. Following nearly five decades of service in the field of special education, she has had a profound effect on thousands of students and families in the Washington metropolitan area.

“I have loved this job and all of the remarkable people that I’ve been fortunate to work with over the years. Ivymount is a mission driven, vibrant, ever emerging entity. I’m grateful to have been part of this history and for the support of so many dedicated and talented individuals,” commented Wintrol.

Under Wintrol’s supervision and guidance, the Ivymount community has enabled students to achieve their highest levels of development, supported families in their efforts to make intelligent, thoughtful choices with their children, and allowed the School’s expertise in the field of special education to be widely accessible.

“Jan’s belief in the ability of all students and staff to achieve their best has been extraordinary. We are so grateful for her tireless dedication to our schools and programs whose mission is so valuable and vital.  Thanks to her leadership, Ivymount is an exceptional place,” said Rob Wanerman, President of Ivymount Board of Directors.

During her tenure, The Ivymount School and Programs have seen tremendous expansion, responding to the growing needs of the Washington area community of individuals with special needs.  Her leadership in the field of special education has led Ivymount to become a regional leader in outcome-based educational and vocational programs.

Former Board President Gerard McLoughlin added, “I’ve learned a great deal from Jan while serving on the Ivymount Board. It’s a tremendous accomplishment to run the school and to transition into running a corporation. Jan’s expertise in navigating and working with students and their families, staff, members of the community, and local and state legislatures is an asset that will be tough to replace. We’re all grateful for her wisdom and leadership.”

The Ivymount Corporation Board has formed a selection committee to oversee the search process.
