The School to Work Post High School model provides a community focused, life skills program that prepares students ages 18-21 for a successful transition from school to employment and adult life.  The model allows students to match their abilities and interests with community job placements, which provide them with challenging opportunities to acquire and utilize life skills in practical ways. Students also participate in community-based instruction to support their successful transition to living and participating in the community. In all settings students acquire pragmatic and functional educational skills, basic and advanced social skills, positive work attitudes, and constructive behaviors that will contribute to their successful transition to adult life. Students exiting the Post High School at age 21 receive a Certificate of Completion.

Our School to Work Model emphasizes building vocational social, community and recreational skills that lead to a balanced work-life experience after graduation.  The success of our students in the community and at work is also due to our teaching students to:

  • Formulate goals and develop realistic plans for the future through development of self-determination and self-advocacy skills
  • Manage and be responsible for one’s own behavior
  • Access and participate in the community
  • Live as independently as possible and manage a household
  • Seek, acquire and maintain a job relevant to interests and abilities
  • Problem-solve and make informed decisions
  • Communicate effectively

Each student works with a Transition Team that includes special education teachers, therapists, job coaches and a transition specialist to seek, acquire, and maintain employability, social and community skills. Classroom instruction supports job-related and life skills activities.
